UW Health Mindfulness Meditation Drop- In Groups

No registration required.  Each session will be structured around three elements: meditation practice, check in about our individual practice, and a brief talk on an important theme related to our intention to lead a mindful life. Meets Fridays: 6:15-7:30 pm.  Check website for future meetings.

SnowFlower Sangha

Based on the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh.  Meetings usually consist of a 20-minute sit, a 10-minute walking meditation, another 20-minute sit, a 15-minute talk, and 15 minutes of discussion.  Meet on Tuesdays and Fridays 7:00 – 8:30 pm at the Friend Meetinghouse, 1704 Roberts Road.  There are also meetings on Sundays from 10:00 – 11:30 am and Wednesdays from 1:30 – 3:00 pm.  The Sunday and Wednesday sessions are held in people’s homes.

Tergar Meditation Community

Based on the teachings of Tibetan lama Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, the Tergar community of meditation centers offers weekly meditation and study groups, as well as regular seminars on meditation and the core principles of the Buddhist path. The weekly meditation group focuses on working with the challenges of day-to-day life to create a peaceful mind and open heart.  Meetings are Sundays 10:00-noon, and Fridays 7:00-8:00 pm at their meditation center at 301 S Blount St.  These are unguided sessions divided into thirty minutes segments followed by a short break.

Madison Insight Meditation Group/Madison Vipassana

Provides opportunities for the practice of samatha/vipassana meditation in the Theravada Buddhist tradition and access to the teachings of the Buddha. Meetings are on Tuesdays at 6:30-8:15 pm, Fridays at 7:30-9:00 pm or Sundays at 6:00-8:00 pm.  See the website for the locations.

Madison LGBTQI Meditation Group

This group is for anyone who identifies as LGBTQI.  The format is 30-minute meditation, 10-minute walking, yoga or stretching, check ins, reading from Awakening Together by Larry Yang or dharma talk, and mindful discussion.  Meets on the 2nd & 4th Wednesday of the month from 7:00-8:30 pm at Threshold, 2717 Atwood Ave.

Madison Shambhala Center

Offers public meditation several times a week, a core curriculum of Buddhist and Shambhala teachings, as well as training in advanced contemplative practices.  Meets Thursdays at 7:00 pm at Madison Shambhala Center, 408 S Baldwin St.
